Run Track Ireland was officially started in Jan 2008.  Its purpose, to promote and raise the profile of Irish athletes and to hopefully inspire the younger generation at grassroot levels .The site is designed and maintained by John Carew, an athlete,a coach and an avid fan of track and field. 

The idea was inspired by other websites from different countries around the world. I found that i was beginning to know more about foreign athletes than our own Irish athletes. Irish track & field fans are being deprived of the going ons in our sport as other sports grab the headlines in our papers etc.
