Nothing sturctured at all until I went to school. Would just try different events at the club and do a bit of running. Then started to follow running programmes when I went to school.

Still in touch with athletes from school but not really at my club. Most athletes in the club are a lot younger than me.

First medal at an All Irelands was when I won the ball throw! First internationl was schools cross country. Competed a lot in 800m as well. Also did the combined events a few times and javelin.

When did you get serious about training?

I started to get quite serious about my running in 2nd year at school. Competed with the Irish team in high jump at Cardiff Indoors Indoor International when I was in fourth year and was only jumping whenever I was at home which wasn't very often as I was in school in Dublin so Stephen Maguire put me in contact with Lucy and began to get serious about it then.

Did you do any other sports?

. Did lots of different sports when I was younger, everything really. But my other main sport was hockey which I played for the 6 years at school. Played for Leinster and had Irish trials but turned them down to concentrate on athletics.

Did you go to college abroad? If so what was the set-up like. In terms of coaches, facilities, medical team?

Am in college in West London. Have only had one term here but so far everything has gone extremely well. Took a while to get my training programme running smoothly but now that it is its going really well. Haven't had a team competition yet but the atmosphere at training is really good. Facilities are excellent. Have a 110m indoor track with areas for high jump, long jump, pole vault and some throwing. Also a 400m track outdoor.
